To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, we have developed a Moon Landing Challenge. This is an opportunity to commemorate one of the most significant moments in human history and celebrate the many STEM achievements that came with it.
Even if the moon landing happened before you were born, the impact of this event is still felt today. It inspires us to dream, be curious and courageous. It shows us that we can solve problems with perseverance and overcome failure with resilience. These are important skills to teach young children, particularly as the world’s problems and their solutions become increasingly complex.
This Challenge is an opportunity to engage children in STEM, in a range of different ways as the world celebrates the 50th Anniversary of this event. We have developed 8 different missions that engage young children in STEM Thinking and Doing. Document your ideas, projects, discussions, research, explorations, and activities (with your team and children) and share your adventure with us in the STEM Detectives Facebook Group with #MoonLandingChallenge.
Based on the stories you share we will choose a winner who will receive a fantastic book pack for their library or bookshelf. We will be looking for lots of STEM Language and evidence of STEM Thinking and there are bonus points for those who engage with families and their communities!
Entries will close 6 pm AEST Friday, 26 July 2019.
Let’s take this opportunity to inspire some future astronauts, pilots, astrophysicists, mathematicians, engineers, designers and scientists! If you choose to accept this mission, head to the Moon Landing Challenge Page and complete the form .
See you on the other side!
